Brief Information of the eyewitness and the interview situation

He was 10-12 years old in 1945 and his family was settled in Pasni since long time. Population was settled (Pasni town) at the place where mini port/ fish harbor is built but drowned because of tsunami 1945

Interview result (text of the interview: Purely descriptive)

It was not called tsunami at that time as people had never experience that before rather they called it “sea storm”. They came to know about word “tsunami” during a tsunami awareness and simulation drills campaign organized in Pasin few years ago. He recalled his memories when earthquake happened before tsunami, people woke up by the strong earth shaking and inundation made them evacuate to inland higher grounds/ sand dunes. Water receded (approximately 1.5 to 2 kilometers) after the earthquake before it came forward and hit the Pasni Coast. Sakhi Dad said about sea receding phenomenon that it is essential that sea recedes first to hit back coast in the form of high and strong waves. Approximately after 30 minutes of the earthquake shocks, first waves hit Pasni village.

Key Message

In Sakhi Dad’s opinion, no one could be saved if the sand dunes were not there mentioning the inland inundation points/ limit of tsunami waves to the team.
