Second Training Workshop on Tsunami Exercise

As follow up activities of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO and UNESCO Office Jakarta project entitled: “Enhancing Tsunami Risk Assessment and Management, Strengthening Policy Support and Developing Guidelines for Tsunami Exercises in Indian Ocean Countries”, the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (ICG/IOTWS) secretariat, the ICG/IOTWS Working Group 3 on Tsunami Awareness and Response and the IOC UNESCO Indian Ocean Tsunami Information Centre (IOTIC) will conduct the second training workshop in Timor Leste on Tsunami Exercise on 14-17 July 2014.

The objective of this training workshop is to support the development and strengthening of the tsunami exercises guideline in the country as well as to develop an action plan for the IOWave Exercise 2014.

This 4 days training workshop is jointly organized with the National Disaster Management Directorate of the Ministry of Social Solidarity as the project partner in Timor Leste. 30 participants from national and districts (Manufahi, Covalima, Viqueque dan Los Palos) government as well as other organization involved in tsunami exercise activities in Timor Leste will be participating in this workshop.

The training will be facilitated by Mrs Irina Rafliana from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences; Mrs Vidiarina Henny Dwi, consultant on tsunami emergency preparedness and response; and Mr Ardito M. Kodijat of IOTIC.
